All our explosion proof lights are designed to meet strict safety standards for use in hazardous environments.

OAK LED explosion proof flood lights are used in potentially explosive atmospheres to provide safe illumination whilst maintaining excellent performance and high levels of energy efficiency. In industries such as oil refineries, chemical processing plants, grain storage facilities and mines specialist lighting is required to enable safe working practices in hazardous environments.

Why Choose OAK LED Explosion Proof Flood Lights?

Unparalleled Safety Standards

At OAK LED we take Safety seriously, which is why we design and test the explosion proof flood light enclosures to a single end – to prevent any internal occurrence of a spark or generation of heat which could ignite flammable gases or vapors, or cause flames or sparks to be generated by combustible dusts within the hazardous atmosphere surrounding the enclosure.

The explosion proof light fixture is enclosed in a heavy-duty, flame resistant housing with carefully designed flame paths. These paths provide for the fast cooling of any internal explosion to prevent the escape of hot gases and thus prevent fire or explosion. This is the main reason why the OAK LED explosion proof light can be safely used in potentially explosive atmospheres. It is the safety of the user that is of prime importance to us and we are sure that this lighting solution will provide peace of mind for facility managers, safety officers and personnel alike.

Superior Illumination Technology

OAK LED explosion-proof lights are the highest safety combined with the highest level of lighting performance available in the market today. Superior Lighting Performance. Exceptional Value. Our explosion proof fixed outdoor flood lights are designed to be energy efficient when compared to traditional fixed outdoor HID and Fluorescent explosion proof lights, with up to 70-80% energy savings. Our explosion proof flood lights are long lasting and provide up to 100,000 hours of life from a single set of batteries.

The optical design is further developed to deliver the optimal distribution of light to ensure that there are no dark spots and that glare is kept to a minimum. The ability of the light to clearly show up the colors of objects and therefore enable safe identification of potential hazards is a critical factor in the selection of an explosion proof light and a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 80+ is therefore a key feature of the OAK LED explosion proof flood light.

Built to Endure Extreme Conditions

The OAK LED explosion proof flood light is designed to be used in harsh environments and is able to withstand extremely high temperatures as well as physical damage. The fixture is also able to withstand water and chemicals and is designed using marine-grade aluminum which has been coated with a special powder coating to increase corrosion resistance.

Our explosion-proof lights are designed for use in harsh environments and continue to operate in environments as low as -40° C and as high as +60° C. They have been designed to withstand harsh environments and resist corrosion from chemicals. They have a heavy duty marine grade aluminum housing and have been given a specialized powder coating to ensure maximum durability. In addition to the explosion proof rating our floodlights have an IP66 and IP67 rated ingress protection, meaning that the fixture can withstand dust entering the fixture and withstanding high pressure water jets as well as temporary submersion in water.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What makes a light "explosion proof"?

An explosion proof flood light is a type of light that is designed with a special type of enclosure to contain any internal explosion. The housing of the explosion proof light provides a special type of flame path for any gases to escape. The gases are cooled to a temperature below that required for ignition. The purpose of the enclosure is to assume that an explosion will occur within the light. It is designed to contain that explosion so that it will not escape the light and travel to and explode in an external hazardous environment (such as an area containing flammable vapors or gases).

How do I know which explosion proof rating I need?

Class I locations contain flammable gases or vapors, Class II locations contain combustible dusts and Class III locations contain ignitable fibers. Division 1 locations contain hazardous materials on a regular basis whereas Division 2 locations contain hazardous materials on an occasional basis. The hazardous location classification for your facility would typically be detailed in your facilities hazardous area classification (HAC) documentation. In some cases it may be necessary for a qualified electrical engineer to define the proper classification for your location.

Can OAK LED explosion-proof lights be used outdoors?

The OAK LED explosion-proof flood lights are totally suitable for use outside as they have an IP rating of IP66/IP67. This means that the light is resistant to rain and snow as well as dust storms. The light can also withstand high pressure wash down. The operating temperature of the explosion proof flood light can be as low as -30 degrees C and as high as 70 degrees C making the light suitable for use in all climates.

How difficult is installation?

Installation of an OAK LED explosion-proof lights is relatively easy. These explosion proof lights are designed to be easily mounted by a qualified person, with knowledge of hazardous locations. There are a number of mounting options that are standard with most of the models, and the wiring terminals are clearly labeled and easy to use, with an accompanying manual that is easy to follow. As with all installations in hazardous locations, such work must be done in compliance with the local electrical codes, and the person doing the work must be a qualified person who is certified to work in such locations.

What maintenance do these lights require?

OAK LED explosion proof flood lights have very few maintenance requirements and the biggest advantage is the fact that they are very long lasting. In comparison to HID lamps that need to be changed from time to time as their bulbs burn out, the OAK LED explosion proof flood lights have a lifespan of more than 100,000 hours.

Are these lights dimmable?

Dimming is available on most models of explosion proof flood lights. All OAK LED models come with standard 0-10V dimming as standard. Some models are also DALI compatible.

What warranty coverage is provided?

OAK LED explosion proof flood lights come with a 5 Year Warranty.

LED Explosion-Proof Lights compared to HID Explosion-Proof Lights.

Advantages of OAK LED explosion proof lighting over traditional HID explosion proof lighting. OAK LED explosion proof lighting systems offer up to 70-80% energy savings when compared to traditional HID explosion proof lighting systems. The longest lasting explosion proof lighting fixtures on the market – lasting 3-5 times longer than comparable HID fixtures. The ability to switch on and off immediately – no warm-up time! Better quality explosion proof lighting with a higher Color Rendering Index (CRI). Less heat is produced from these fixtures – operating at a lower temperature. Less maintenance is better when it comes to access to a lighting fixture in hazardous locations – fewer required maintenance activities. When comparing the initial cost of an explosion-proof LED lights to that of a comparable HID explosion proof lighting fixture, the total cost of ownership is less for the LED explosion proof lighting fixture.
