What should be taken into consideration when upgrading to LED system from Traditional one
It saves over 50% energy consumption for LED lighting compared to traditional lights. Before upgrading your lighting, there are some important points you should know about and then make decisions that suit your needs more. Here are some tips:
Brightness:
If you’re new to the lighting industry, the Luminous efficacy is the basic factor when you decide to change your existing lighting. It`s a measure of how well a light source produces visible light. It is the ratio of luminous flux to power. You need to pay attention to lumens per watt in the specification.
Color temperature(CCT)
The higher the Degrees Kelvin, the whiter the color temperature. At the lower end of the scale, from 2700K to 3000K, the light produced is called “warm white” and ranges from orange to yellow-white in appearance. It is suitable for restaurant, commercial ambient lighting, decorative lighting.
Color temperatures between 3100K and 4500K are referred to as “cool white” or “bright white.” It can be used for basements, garages and such.
Above 4500K-6500K brings us into the “daylight”.It is widely used for display area, sports field and security lighting.
Dimming
Many consumers want dimming lighting, but not all kinds of led lights can be equipped with dimming systems. In the meantime, not all the dimmable led lights can be controlled by traditional dimmers. Therefore, you need to confirm if the dimmer(If you insist on your own traditional dimmer) is compatible with the led lights you want to purchase.
Beam angles
Beam angles can be identified as: Very Narrow Spot(<7 degrees),Narrow Spot(7-15 degrees),Spot(16-22 degrees),Narrow Flood(23-32 degrees),Flood(33-45 degrees),Wide Flood(46-60 degrees),Very Wide Flood(>60 degrees). You need to chose appropriate angles for your specific project. Besides, beam angles can be customized by lens or reflectors. With reflectors, the light that reaches the required area will be less than that with lens. If you want more light to be at the area, customization by lens would be a better option.
