The Costs Of Stadium Lighting

The Costs Of Stadium Lighting--(2)

Actually about the lighting design for different sport fields, we offer different models of our LED stadium flood lights for option because different projects have different budget plans. So our clients can choose different specifications, performance and price according to their lighting budget plan and use LED stadium flood lights to replace the metal halide lamps.

1. Comparison of energy saving between LED stadium flood lights and metal halide lamps

In previous testing data, our 1000W LED stadium flood lights can replace 2000W to 4000W metal halide lamps. So the replacement rate between our LED flood light and metal halide lamps is 1 to 3.

And the energy consumption rate between LED lights and metal halide lamps is also different. In our testing, the power consumption of LED lights is about 10%, but the power consumption of metal halide lamps is about 30%, which means that the actual power consumption of 1000W LED lamp is 1100W, and the actual power consumption of 3000W metal halide lamps is 3900W.

A simple example is offered to help you understand. If your ground needs 32KW, then the solution by using LED lamps actually consumes about 36KW (32KW ×1.1× 1) energy to illuminate the entire ground, but if using metal halide lamps, it will require about 125KW (32KW×1.3× 3) energy to illuminate the entire ground.

If the electricity bill is $0.13/KW/hour basing on US average, the client will pay $4.68 per hour for turning on the LED lights and $16 for the metal halide lamps. If the football field needs to turn on for 5 hours a day, then the client will pay $164 a week for LED lights and $560 for metal halide lamps, so it is obvious that LED lights can help to save $405 a week and $21,060 a year.

With this calculation, it is very helpful for the customers to consider whether they need to replace metal halide lamps by using LED lights and how many costs they will save by using LED lights instead of metal halide lamps.

2. The comparison of working lifespan between LED stadium flood lights and metal halide lamps

Even though the cost for LED lights is a little expensive than metal halide lamps, LED lights are produced with the most advanced technology, which can offer high brightness, high efficient replacement, high performance and other advantages, finally leading an inevitable trend to replace the metal halide lamps in the following decades.

3. How does the lighting design affect the costs of stadium lighting

It is very necessary to have a suitable lighting design for stadium lighting projects. And as we mentioned above, a lighting design involves in many factors, such as the size of playing field, the number of light poles, the pole height and distance, the pole position, the quantity of the lamps and the illumination requirement for the field, etc.

So if a customer wants to use LED stadium lights to illuminate his sport fields, we will provide different lighting designs for his reference, which is totally depending on his needs.

About the pole design in the whole lighting plan, it is usually recommended to set 4 poles with 35 meter high, or 6 poles with 25 meter high, or 8 poles with 10-15 meter high, etc.

The fewer poles in the stadium, the higher they need to maintain uniformity. In these cases, we will use a small beam angle that allows the beam to propagate further and maintain a higher ground reach, which can make the entire playing field illuminated brightly and evenly.

In addition, the lighting effect can be influenced by the pole position. If the poles at the corners and the poles on the both sides of the playing field can bring different light distributions, so we make the customized lighting plans for different situations, which will ultimately affect the costs of stadium lighting.
