LED Parking Lot Lighting

                       LED Parking Lot Lighting

Passing through dimly lit parking lots can make employees, customers and other visitors feel unsafe, and dark parking lots can provide an environment for criminal activity. Keep the parking lot light, especially during the shortest day of the day.

Parking lot lighting systems installed more than a decade ago may use inefficient lights and operate at a higher cost than new LED replacements. Cost savings, reduced maintenance costs and extended life also provide a good return on investment for LED lighting options, quickly offsetting your replacement costs. When understanding the replacement of parking lot lights, please refer to the following 6 things in LED parking lot lighting:

1) LED vs HID

All HIDs require a ballast to regulate power and generate an initial surge to activate the lamp. HIDs consume less power and produce more illumination than halogen bulbs, but they consume a lot more power than LEDs.

LEDs provide uniform illumination. Unlike HIDs, HIDs must be equipped with bulky reflectors to redirect light output, while LED lamps do not require bulky reflectors and are relatively small in size and weight.

Historically, HID lamps have been the preferred choice for parking lots and other large areas that require large amounts of visible light. However, they are not the perfect solution because the light produced is not always pleasing, and most HIDs take longer to warm up before they are fully illuminated. Although installing HID lighting typically reduces upfront costs, regular relighting and ballast replacement often offsets these savings. Even if the initial investment in LED lighting is higher, it can provide a faster return on investment because LEDs have almost no maintenance costs.

2) Pole Placement

Almost all parking fixtures are mounted on high poles, so lighting can be more easily integrated throughout the area. LED lighting provides more light and can be customized for light distribution, using fewer fixtures to achieve the same or better results. So LED lighting doesn't require as many poles, so you must also decide whether to leave or remove the pole that no longer contains the fixture. In most cases, if the pole is still in good condition, it will be more cost effective to reuse the existing pole.

3) Ideal light characteristics for parking lot applications

In order to make the LED parking lot lighting better, the product's color temperature (CCT), color rendering index (CRI), light distribution performance, heat distribution characteristics, environmental protection and the level of safety obtained are very important. The color temperature defines the color of the light; the CRI rating tells you that the object's appearance when illuminated is compared to objects in daylight conditions; the high uniformity, the glare-free light distribution system makes people more comfortable; the LED light fixture shell should also help Reduce heat and keep the operating temperature low. Since the efficiency of the LED decreases as the operating temperature increases, it is important to control the amount of heat emitted. HID bulbs emit a lot of UV radiation. Unlike LEDs, HID bulbs require special safe handling steps.

4) Improve efficiency through control

LED lights provide high quality lighting and save energy, especially when combined with adaptive control integration. One of the biggest advantages of LED lighting is the dimmability, which typically includes a 0-10v dimmable driver. There is also an adjustable passive infrared photo/motion (PIR) sensor that detects motion and adjusts the light output as needed. After the sensor stops detecting motion, the time delay control keeps the light in high mode, typically a default time period of five minutes, then switches back to low mode. Turn off the control and then turn off the fixture completely after running the default time of one hour in low mode. Photocell control is another option that allows the indicator to turn on or off based on the current amount of ambient light.

5) Professional lighting assessment

LED technology continues to develop rapidly, and the popularity of commercial LED parking lot lights is increasing year by year. If you need to upgrade your parking lot, OAK LED will customize a replacement for each parking lot to maximize replacement efficiency and cost efficiency.
