How can we test LED light attenuation?

According to the definition of the life of LED products in the LED industry, the lifespan of an LED is the cumulative operating time from the initial value to the disappearance of light to 50% of the original value. This means that when the LED reaches its useful life, the LED will still be on. However, under lighting, if the light output is attenuated by 50%, no light is allowed. Generally, the light attenuation of indoor lighting cannot be greater than 20%, and the light attenuation of outdoor lighting cannot be greater than 30%.

The light attenuation of white LEDs is one of the most significant issues to enter the lighting market. Manufacturers typically test attenuation in three ways:

1) Visual method: The LED is continuously lit, and the brightness and color changes are observed with the naked eye.

2) Use a light-colored tester: During the continuous lighting of the LED, often put the LED into the light-colored tester, record the test results, and report the test results through EXCEL or other tools.

3) Use professional test equipment to measure the attenuation of the light, that is, put the LED in the test equipment. During the continuous lighting, the system will track the brightness and color changes of the LED in real time and automatically generate an information table.
