Horse Arena Lighting Design

The racecourse is a sports area for indoor or outdoor horse racing and sporting events. Whether you want to upgrade an existing arena or build a new racetrack, ensuring an outstanding lighting system is crucial. In order to achieve the highest lumen output and performance, and appropriate racetracks, select the appropriate fixture and fixture location. The most important factors to consider for lighting in the racecourse include lighting intensity, energy efficiency, safety, anti-glare and light leakage, and other factors such as economic efficiency, service life and post-maintenance costs.

Indoor horse field light

Indoor racetrack lighting should focus on safety and appropriateness. If the shadows, glare or lack of light, the lighting solution will not pass. The suitability of LED luminaires must be dust and water resistant. OAK LED lights are 100% structurally designed to meet the lighting needs of indoor racetracks, and high uniformity and high replacement rates are leading the industry.

LED – luminaire efficiency

Due to the size and use of the racecourse, ordinary lighting requires a large number of lamps, which means that ordinary lighting has a very high energy consumption. This is why the OAK LED luminaires are more durable and powerful on the racetrack. Each generation of LED technology is more energy efficient than the previous generation. OAK LEDs use American CREE original lamp beads, which have extremely high heat resistance and a lifetime of 100,000 hours.

OAK LED's high bay light can be selected for lighting indoor horse racing venues. Hook design is used for indoor installation and high lumen output.

The two main features of the OAK LED high bay are the optional beam angle and blend angle design. Choose different angles according to different roof heights, such as 90 degrees for heights greater than 10m. If the roof is larger than 15m, it is recommended to choose angles of 60 degrees or lower.

IP rating

Whether LED fixtures are used indoors or outdoors, proper IP rating fixtures are important. The IP rating refers to the level of dust and watertight seals. Choose the appropriate level based on the environment in which the fixture is installed, humidity, and dust.

The luminaires of any of the following three levels are protected from dust, dust, sand and debris:

IP65 – waterproof

IP66 – waterproof, resistant to powerful jets

IP67 – completely sealed and immersible in water

Outdoor equestrian arena lighting

Like indoor lighting, outdoor lighting systems not only increase lighting intensity and safety, but also provide a better environment for horses and riders.

The first step is to determine the lighting level requirements for the racecourse. For example, a high-level football field will definitely require a higher level of lighting. There must be no shadows or hot spots in the equestrian arena; in fact, many arenas have specific levels to be reached. Minimizing shadows keeps horses, riders and spectators safe and calm. Usually, the shadows will scare the horses and are harmful to the horses and the people around them. Creating a safe and comfortable environment for riders and horses is essential when lighting the arena. Glare can also be equally destructive. OAK optical lenses have anti-glare technology that reduces the impact of LED fixtures on riders and horses, while using a multi-angle hybrid design to minimize optical leakage and reduce the impact on residents near the racecourse.

Optical option

One of the most advantageous features of OAK LEDs is the ability to mount different optical options on the luminaire to best suit the needs of the racetrack. OAK LED TIR optical lenses have different beam spreads, available in 15, 25, 40, 60, 90 degrees. Smaller optical degrees will create a narrower but concentrated beam, while larger optics will create a wider but scattered beam. The OAK LED will provide you with a 100% matching lighting design based on each racetrack.

Dimming system

OAK LEDs provide 0-10v or 1-10v DMX, DALI dimming function. Adapt to the dimming requirements of different racecourses, adjust different brightness according to different horse racing levels to save energy.

Recommended brightness requirements

In most cases, the outdoor arena can accept 15–20 foot candles, although it depends on the size of the arena. For performance jump training, the recommended foot candle level is 40, while for training and dressage, a minimum of 50 foot candles is recommended. If you want to perform highly competitive lighting, 70 foot candles are suitable.
