Customized Football Fields Lighting Design

We offer free lighting designs for football stadiums or soccer pitch, with different standards for entertainment, high school, college, professional and international competitions.

Our LED stadium flood lights meets FIFA, Premier League and Olympic standards. Our engineers are well versed in the use of DiaLux to design the best lighting solutions and create photometric analysis reports. In addition to telling you how we should place outdoor lighting, we will also give you common mistakes, so you can avoid them. Good planning is a prerequisite for winning lighting tenders.

Football field lighting requirements

This requirement provides a guide to the lighting of the stadium. Let us explore how to choose the best floodlights.

1. The lux level (brightness) required for the football field

The lux level between television and non-television competitions varies widely. According to the FIFA Stadium Lighting Guide, the highest standard level of the V-level (ie World Cup and other international television broadcasts) football stadium is 2400 lux (vertical - football player's face) and 3500 lux (horizon - turf). If the football field is for the community (entertainment), we need 200 lux levels. High school or college football clubs can have 500 lux.

2. Uniformity standard

Another important parameter is illumination uniformity. It is a ratio of 0 to 1 (maximum), reflecting the lumen distribution within the playing field. It is the ratio of the minimum illuminance to the average illuminance (U1), or the ratio of the minimum to the maximum (U2). Therefore, if the lux levels are very similar, about 650 to 700 lux, the difference between the minimum and maximum values is very small and the uniformity will be closer to 1. The FIFA standard football field has a uniformity of 0.7, which is relatively challenging in the sports lighting industry.

3. Color temperature

The general color temperature requirement for all levels of football are greater than 4000K. Despite this suggestion, we usually recommend the cool white light (from 5000K to 6500K) to provide better illumination for the players and audience because these colors are more invigorating.

Common mistakes to avoid when designing sports lights

In order to improve the quality of your submission, we can avoid the following common sports lighting design errors.

1. Avoid light pollution in the design

The stadium uses LED lights of up to 60,000 to 100,000 watts. Poor control of minor spills can affect the quality of life of nearby residents. Intense glare can blur the vision of road users and endanger the lives of pedestrians.

To solve this problem, our LED stadium lights are equipped with anti-glare and precise optics to direct the light to a designated area to reduce light loss. In addition, we can use floodlights with smaller beam angles, so the lights become more concentrated.

2. Life of the lamp

Some electrical contractors may ignore the life of the lamp. In fact, lighting that lasts for more than 20 years is a good incentive for stadium owners. Frequent replacement also means high maintenance costs. Our LED lights have a life of 80,000 hours, which is equivalent to 27 years if it is turned on 8 hours a day.

3. Flickering Issue in the lighting design

This issue is particularly prominent in football stadiums that host international television competitions. In lighting design, we should ensure that the illumination of the football field does not flicker under the slow motion camera; otherwise, it will significantly affect the viewer experience. The strobe light will affect the judgment during playback and will make your stadium look unprofessional.

Despite this, our sports field lights are designed for high speed cameras. Their flickering rate is less than 0.3%, in line with international broadcasting standards.

By considering all of the above factors, your chances of success will be greatly enhanced. You can get professional and best lighting advice by contacting us.
