6 Step Guide to Surge Protection

Here are five steps to help you provide the best protection for your LED lights.

1. Hire professionals-trained professional electricians can test dirty power supplies and take appropriate steps to protect your electrical system from surges. Talk to your electrician and make sure you are protected.

2. Use surge protectors-install surge protectors in all lighting circuits. For your LED lights, there are two good options for surge protection: a series surge protector and a photocell socket surge protector. Embedded surge protectors can be used for various LED options, including floodlights, corn bulbs, LED ceiling lights, etc. They are installed in your circuit just before the LED lights are turned on, so they are very common in their use. The photocell socket surge protector is designed for LED shoebox lights and takes advantage of the photocell socket that is easy to twist and lock. The surge protector is simply screwed into place in the photocell socket, and the photocell is locked in place on the top of the surge protector. This is also easy to replace when the surge protector needs to be replaced. Both options are cheap and very suitable for protecting LED lights.

3.Don't overload the circuit-this is a common mistake. Always make sure that the device and the device are plugged into the correct power outlet that matches the amount of power they require. Make sure not to install too many electronic devices on the same circuit. If the circuit is overloaded, the circuit breaker may cut off the power to the circuit, but the spike that tripped the circuit breaker may have caused irreversible damage to your LED lights.

4. Choose the right surge protector-not all surge protectors are designed to fit all types of lights or appliances. For example, surge protectors used in LED floodlights may not be suitable for air conditioners or refrigerators, and vice versa. Some surge protectors also include filters or regulators to help deal with dirty electricity.

5. Regularly replace the surge protector-the surge protector will not be used indefinitely. It is a good idea to replace the surge protector every two years. A strong surge may be the end of protection, so be prepared to replace them, especially after a known big surge. Many small power surges will wear out the surge protector, and when you need it, they may not be able to protect your LED parking lot lights.

6. Choose LED lights with built-in surge protection – manufacturers such as Meanwell have designed some LED drivers with built-in surge protection. Some corn bulbs also have built-in surge protectors. Buy LED lights from a source that keeps the surge protection in mind. Whether it is an LED lamp with built-in surge protection or an easy-to-install surge protection option, you can use them with their LED lights.
